Jusuf Nurkic Is Out For The Season

Portland Trail Blazers center Jusuf Nurkic suffered compound fractures to the tibia and fibula of his lower left leg in a double-overtime win against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night and will be out indefinitely. The gruesome injury suffered by Blazers' center overshadowed everything else on Monday night.

This happened when Nurkic jumped to try to grab a rebound. He came down awkwardly and suffered season-ending compound fractures to his left tibia and fibula—the same injury Paul George suffered to his right leg in 2014.

The Blazers held a collective moment of silence and prayer for Nurkic in the locker room following the game. “I’m just going to go home and pray for him,” Blazers center Enes Kanter said. “This is bigger than basketball. We clinched the playoff spot but we can’t even celebrate. He was a big part of our family. Not our team, our family.”

The Portland big man is now ending the best year of his career. In Monday night’s game, he scored a season-high, team-high 32 points on 24 shots.
